Entries marked with an * are specifically useful to eGPU users, and entries marked with ** are specific to certain systems. These are a couple of Power Management Options that are useful for Performance and Thermal Management of Laptops and Ultrabooks. This is the same process for adding any Advanced Power Management Options in Windows. Open the Windows Registry Editor (regedit.msc) and navigate to the relevant sections by copying the Registry Entry Destination Text into the text bar at the top of the Registry Editor application and pressing Enter. For Windows 11 users, advanced Power Management settings can be accessed through the Control Panel. These Registry Edits should work for both Windows 10 and Windows 11. All the values I have suggested are designed for maximum performance and should be set under the Plugged In option. All changes can then be done subsequently through Power Options. These Registry Edits will not change your device’s Power Management Settings, they will only make them an option in Windows Power Management. These options can be used to increase battery life (by setting a Maximum Processor State of 99%) managing thermal throttling (by setting a Maximum CPU Frequency Limit) or simply to ensure your laptop is running in the highest performance profile that it can. Once the additional parameters have been added, you can then make your own custom power-plan with the high-performance options selected, or just change the default (Balanced) power plan to prefer maximum performance when plugged in. This isn't too much of an issue, as we can add all the parameters that we need to change independently. And while these plans are better equipped than the default Balanced plan, they too have restrictions. High Performance and Ultimate Performance plans are often hidden in laptops even after running a command to add them, such is the case for my current Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro. The extent of these limitations varies from the removal of advanced options (Such as USB Power Management) through to limiting a device to a single Power Plan (Balanced). Laptop Manufacturers often limit the control users have over their laptop’s Power Management Options, and this is especially true of modern ultrabooks.
